THE NEW MUTANTS: A LATE REVIEW

  When theaters were announcing a gradual re-opening here in Kenya, I was elated to jump at the first opportunity to sit in a dark room and be entertained. So, on a Saturday morning, I woke up early and rushed to another part of town, and found that only The New Mutants was showing. No worries, I was looking forward to it anyway; turns out I was the only one in the theater that morning; Enough of the backstory, now to the meat on the bone. Premise The New Mutants is a story of a young lady, Dani Moonstar, who finds herself in a facility with other mutants that’s intended to help them get better, but in reality is a prison meant to keep them there under the watchful eye of Dr. Reyes, who has her own agenda for them. Likes I’ve always loved the tone of the X-men films, and this one is no different. It didn’t feel like a superhero movie, but rather a mystery-type thing.(Not a horror, like we were promised) I liked the connection to Logan, where the Essex facility was...

“NEXT!” the man ordered through the microphone when the man walked out. Almost immediately, a tall woman burst in; dress barely clinging onto her svelte body for dear life as her high heels clunked on the hardwood floor with every step she took, her face ghostly in appearance. Who graces us with such? The animal whimpered as it limped away from them in vain.   Its legs were broken and they were closing in for the kill.   Its big brown eyes pleaded for mercy from the hungry lot, but they did nothing to stop the axe from parting its head from its body.   They then skinned it, chopped it up well, and balanced its entrails over the fire with the others they had caught.     Down the great steps that circled the altar at the center of the village, all gathered to commemorate the last meal before they would succumb to their hunger pangs.   Their shovels were covered in rust, the ploughs gathered moss in the barns while their oxen had long been relieved of their flesh, leaving only bones strewn across the hard, dry ground.     They feasted on their hunting help, feeding the weeping children who had no choice but to partake of their beloved pets.   No one dared chastise them, none had the guile to scold the yo...
